Avet Reels Review Empty Avet Reels Review

As requested Meatloaf. I own 3 three avet reels. I have a SX 5.3, a 2 speed SX 6/4 and a JX 6.0. I can say without a doubt they are the three best coventional reels I own. I think the first thing you notice is the construction. They are built like tanks. Every piece is made from machined aluminum. They are so smooth it's unbelieveable. The drag is smooth and will stop a tank. I've caught cod, tuna, marlin, sailfish, dorado, stripers and blues on the SX 5.3. I think one of the big things is to spool them with braid. I can get 350 yards of 80lbs braid on the SX 5.3. That's plenty of line for whatever you would encounter. Go with Suffix braid over Powerpro. Powerpro frays and can cut your guides. Suffix is smoother and I haven't had any problems with it fraying.

Good review. I'd looked at the SX 2-speed but never had a chance to fish with one. It seems like you get a bit more bang for the buck with them compared to the Penn Int. Torques and the Shimano Trinidads or Tiagras.

I think you can't beat them for the price when you compare them to other reels. I also own a Diawa Saltist, Diawa Luna, Shimano Tyronos, a customized Penn International 30 wide. They are hands down the best in my arsenal. I don't use the Diawa's at all. The drag on the Saltist is terrible in my opinion and the handle on Luna is too small. If you go to the bash this year I will have SX 6/4 with me. I plan on butterfly jigging. You can give it a whirl.

good review...love the mentioning about the line as well...i was not aware that powerpro frays that much...you must really use the line a lot...do me a favor and some line reviews as welll....i am curious also what happens during cod fishing in the cold with braid...i believe rNa says braid freezes up a little(i think he was refering to it on the thames during the winter doldrums)
tuna hunter seems like a hugely experienced charter fisherman...between him and rna, i think there will be lots of info coming our way....i love it..part of fishing is learning...and i love to learn...
