Fall 2010 Reports
Overcast w/ 15 mph wind from the SSE. Water temp at 49 degrees. Fished the meadows and Salmon Cove with live shiners for pike but got nada. Did catch a 13-14 inch white perch! Otherwise, resorted to fishing perch to avoid a shutout. Still a fun day w/ Meatloaf. Who can complain about a day on the water!

Re: Fall 2010 Reports
i have to figure out how i can get my pics and vids on here...i am using ubuntu linux, and it can't see my files on my camera...damn...i got to remedy that soon..
anyways that white perch was huge! never seen one that big...my father told me when he was a kid the used to catch 16" ones all the time.....i think that's crazy...i have never seen them that big.....
Rna's was the largest i have ever seen.... i lipped it as well...seemed to be over a pound.....rna's three way rig is a revelation to me...i never seen it used off a boat, just similar ones in CA to use on long docks in deep water....the rig is pure genius....the fish is less likely to feel the weight...this was proven because i had my weight on the snap, and kirbman got like 5 fish in 15 mins!....
I field tested the bkd soft plastics(i will file a link later in soft plastics).
it's 10"...cheap...and is an assassin type lure similar to the slug-go..
but the colors are off the hook...not heavy tinted....dont mix chartreuse with any other color in the tackle box...it's a bleeding color...

11-13-10 report ct riv
sunny day today.went out to the nukey with tom(11/13/10)...cold as all hell in the morning.
In all of my preparation, i terribly overlooked my motor situation...i needed to put in a new sparkplug...and that created a massive pull start re-occurring nightmare.....lost about an hour of fishing time....oh well...as always fishin factory 3 had great bait that we got at the crack of dawn.....interesting, too...i saw a customer come in right after us....bought shiners and ran to his car.....you could tell that he wanted to procure a good spot where he was going!
the river was quiet at first...wind was maybe 5mph..and the temp avg'd out at 44-45 f.....we went to the nuke area immediately after a short troll with my new planer rod....ok let me talk about this for one second:i brought way to many rods for such a little boat...there was no room for them...and i tried a stand-up rod holder before, and they were in the way then, too....i learned many things on my little boat(for me).....1)use less rods 2)check motor, fuel, and fuel line thoroughly.- i was not "one with my gear" and i spilled some gas all over my hands and the tank.
3)i have much more practice to do with my trolling motor.4)to trickle charge my battery instead of using my minn kota charger.
as we entered the nuker...we realized we were not alone....seems many of the boats that used the ramp access were there...bass/pike/crappie fisherman....we saw a team of two absolutely slam crappie right away...i was trying to find a good spot with my humminbird, and found nothing yet..my boat is hard to move around, unlike every other boat in the river...so we did some drifts...i got 3 bites all day with no success...the real action for us happened all in one spot within the last hour 11am-noon...tom was on fire....he got 1 bass 1 lb 12 oz....2 avg sized perch, and lastly a 1 1/2 lb calico....all on medium sized shiners...the wind kicked up to 10 mph after 10, so we decided to anchor...and it paid off...here are some pictures:
if i had a more stable boat, i would be able to lure fish and troll with ease...oh well...at least i know it's a perfect boat for deeper lakes...and baitfishing wasn't bad on it.....oh well..live and learn...time to figure out my pontoon rig situation.
after i figure out how to edit videos in linux, i will eventually add them to this post and other trip reports that i took video on....

Re: Fall 2010 Reports
Sounds like a nice day. Good report. The calicos hang in schools, so once you find a school you can anchor and fish livebait to catch quite a few. As the water gets colder, I found more success fishing them about mid-depth in that area using a slip bobber allowing me to adjust depth from about 2-4' and a small shot weight just above my live bait. Seemed to work. Didn't get any hits near the top or on the bottom w/ that little 3-way.

Re: Fall 2010 Reports
the sweet spot was for sure mid-depth.....putting a small shot on there is as great idea....we all know how panicked shiners like to porpoise frettingly on the surface.putting them in the zone faster gets you more feesh in the boat....i havent caught a calico since i did black pond way back in the day...but these river crappie are so much larger...i thought that the were only big down south.....incidentally, years ago a 3 lb calico was caught in weth cove...omg that is a monsta!
