Banks/Canyon Overnight Tuna Runs
Late summer/fall fishing off the NJ canyons or Georges Bank out of Gloucester is a long way off, but I'm thinking about an overnight tuna/sword/shark etc. trip. I was looking at the Yankee Capts out of Gloucester, which runs a 2 night/2 day tuna trip in September for $400. Also wondering about some of the boats going out of Jersey. Both about the same drive time. Anyone done one of these?

Re: Banks/Canyon Overnight Tuna Runs
I've been out to Hudson Canyon the past 2 years on a private charter with my cousin and my buddy Steve. It's a long ride, but it can be worth it. Leave from Northern NJ. There is more to catch in the Canyon, then Georges Bank. So far I have caught Blue and Yellowfin Tuna, Cod, Haddock, Pollack, Hake, Tile, and Sea Bass.No swords yet, but we haven't tried. My biggest advice is if you are going to go out on a party boat, don't pick a day. Just pick a 2 or 3 week period, watch the weather and go the best day you see. The weather really can dictate what you fish for out there. If the wind or the seas are too much it is impossible to anchor up or get a good drift if you are bottom fishing. And we all know trolling is hit or miss. I can get you a couple of names of NJ party boats from my cousin if you want them. RNA heading out to Stellwagen May 22 for Cod/Flounder, maybe early season Tuna with Capt. Chuck.

Thanks! If you get a chance to get a few names of party boats that would be great. Otherwise, I'm just taking my best guess from the 'net. Capt. Chuck was in this months Saltwater Sportsman talking about the NE cod fishing.

Yeah I saw the article. Spoke to him for a while the other day. He is completely redoing the boat.
